Physical Education
P.E
Participation is the key to success in Physical Education and PBIS Behavior Expectations will be displayed by all students.
Physical Education (P.E.) - DRESS CODE
All students are required to wear a P.E. uniform during their P.E. class, and encouraged to purchase Hewes P.E. clothing from the PE staff at beginning of school year. P.E. clothes may be purchased from the P.E. teachers directly. (Having 2 sets of P.E. clothes helps to make sure the student has extra clothes in their locker in case they forget to return them after washing.) ** Please Note: PE Clothes are not sold in the front office. **
Students are not required to buy a Hewes P.E. uniform. Students have the option of wearing their own GREY t-shirt with a round collar at neck and loose fit, and ROYAL BLUE athletic style shorts.
Shorts may not have stripes, logos or pockets of any kind. Spandex, nylon, or tight fitting shorts are not allowed.
For safety reasons, pockets are not allowed, and P.E. clothing should fit appropriately for the size of the student. Shorts must be worn on the student's waist and may not be pulled down below the waist. No sagging. Shorts must be dress code length.
The student's first name will be written on the front and last name written on the back of the t-shirt, and the last name on the front leg of shorts in black permanent marker by P.E. staff. No nicknames, "gang-style writing", or other pictures or symbols are allowed. Shirts/shorts that are marked inappropriately, colored in, or lost must be replaced at student cost.
For hygiene reasons NO school clothes may be worn under the P.E. uniform or to class. This includes leggings. Please also note that for hygiene reasons, P.E. clothes are not to be worn at school.
ATHLETIC SHOES are required for P.E. class. Shoes must be laced, tied and fastened at all times during P.E. class. For safety reasons, thick soled shoes, boots, Uggs, platform tennis shoes, sandals, TOMS style shoes, ballet flats, flats, slippers, damaged shoes or shoes without backs are not allowed.
HEWES COLD WEATHER GEAR may be purchased through the P.E. Department or students may wear their own. ONLY long sleeve gray sweatshirt and navy blue (no pockets) sweatpants are allowed in P.E. class. Cold weather gear may be worn OVER P.E. clothes on cold weather days as instructed. For safety reasons, no pockets are allowed in P.E. class. No leggings are permitted in P.E. class.
PE LOCKERS & LOCKS
For physical education class to safeguard personal property, each student is issued a locker and school lock. For security, all school locks must be school-issued. Please note lockers should not be decorated with any item that cannot be easily removed. Any lock not issued by the school in use on school lockers will be removed. If a student loses a lock then a replacement lock will need to be purchased from the PE Department for $8. The school does NOT accept responsibility for items stored in lockers. Students should never share their lockers or lock combination. Money or valuables should not be brought to school; the school will not be responsible for safe keeping of student valuables. Locks remain the property of the school and will be turned in at the end of the year.
