Lisa Banuk

Assistant Principal

Mrs. Banuk brings a wealth of experience to Hewes Middle School, with nearly two decades dedicated to public education. Before joining the TUSD family, she held various roles, including classroom teacher, curriculum coach, and district-level instructional leader. Her teaching background spans multiple grade levels, including upper elementary and middle school English Language Arts. She also served as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), where she focused on critical thinking, Depth and Complexity strategies, and led professional development K-12.

 

She holds a B.A. in Applied Communications from San Diego State University, a Master’s in Education from National University, and a certificate in Gifted and Talented Education from the University of Southern California.

 

Outside of her professional life, Mrs. Banuk enjoys spending time with her family, supporting her children in their academic and athletic pursuits, and nurturing her love for gardening, water activities, and homesteading. She recently married her wonderful and supportive husband, a humble public servant and retired Veteran of the United States Navy.

 

Mrs. Banuk is proud to be part of an incredible team at Hewes that prioritizes student joy and engagement by ensuring every child feels cared for, challenged to grow into their best self, and supported in realizing their potential. She believes in fostering resilience by helping students understand the power of owning their responses to life’s events and situations—there is always a way. She is eager to help students learn The Highlander Way!
